THE ARTIST
Arthur Harold Lindberg painted landscapes and factory sites in the realist mode during the mid-twentieth century. Born in Worchester Massachusetts in 1895 he studied at Columbia University and the Pratt Institute and later moved to Western New York State which served as the focal point of much of his artistic attention until his death in 1977. His paintings encompass many of the industrial and factory sites which populated the area in the 1940s and 50s near Buffalo Harbor on Lake Erie and the Niagara River through the Tonawandas. Known paintings include depictions of the Ohio St Bridge, Spencer-Kellog grain elevators, General Mills grain elevators and the Huron Cement Company all of which were located near the mouth of the Buffalo River. Along the Niagara River he painted the Huntley Power Station, Oil Refinery and Storage Containers to the North and Tonawanda Ironworks in North Tonawanda.
One of Art Lindberg's oil paintings is part of the permanent collection of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo. It is a lively depiction of several men in a large open boat navigating
